Conversion options

Your text stays in this browser tab. It is not uploaded, stored or logged.

How to use it

  • Copy the formatted text from Google Docs, Microsoft Word, a web page, an email or a notes app.
  • Paste it into the left box. The Markdown updates as you paste or edit.
  • Choose whether to keep links and images, and how to handle line breaks.
  • Copy the Markdown or download it as a .md file for Obsidian, GitHub, a static site or any Markdown editor.

What gets converted

  • Headings become #, ## and so on.
  • Bold, italic and strikethrough become **bold**, *italic* and ~~strikethrough~~.
  • Bulleted, numbered and nested lists become Markdown lists.
  • Links become text and images become !alt. Only http, https and mailto addresses are kept; other links keep their text and drop the address.
  • Quotes, inline code, code blocks and tables become their Markdown equivalents.
  • Scripts, styles and form elements are removed. Images embedded as data in the paste keep only their alt text.

Do it where your text already is

If you convert text to Markdown often, Aureon can do it on your Mac without a browser tab. Select formatted text and run Convert to Markdown from Smart Actions; like this page, it can keep links and images. It runs on your Mac and doesn't use AI output quota, though it still needs an internet connection to confirm access.

Questions

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser. The text you paste is not uploaded, stored or logged.

How do I convert a Google Doc to Markdown?

Select the content in Google Docs, copy it, and paste it into the left box. Bold, italic, strikethrough, headings, lists, links and tables carry over.

Does it convert tables?

Yes. Tables become Markdown tables with a header row. Merged cells can't be represented in Markdown, so check those after converting.

What does "Hard breaks" do?

It ends each line inside a paragraph with a Markdown hard break, so single line breaks stay visible when the Markdown is rendered. Code blocks are left unchanged.

Is it free?

Yes. The converter is free to use without signing up.
