What it does
Voice to Obsidian is capture, not editing.
Voice to Obsidian on Mac lets you speak a note and have Aureon capture polished markdown to your vault. It creates a new note, or appends to a designated inbox note (by default an Aureon Inbox note). It is create-only capture: it does not edit or reorganize the notes you keep elsewhere in your vault.
Obsidian rewards fast capture, but typing a clean note mid-thought is friction. Speaking is faster—yet raw dictation drops a wall of unstructured text into your vault that you have to clean up later.
Aureon sits in between. You speak, it prepares structured markdown, and it captures a new note—or appends to your Aureon inbox note—in your vault. The rest of your vault is left untouched.
Why it fits Obsidian
Fast capture that respects your vault.
Obsidian users care about clean, linkable notes and about not letting a tool churn their existing files. Aureon is built around both.
Clean markdown, not a raw transcript
Aureon shapes rough speech into structured markdown—headings, lists, and readable prose—so the note is useful the moment it lands, not a paragraph you have to reformat.
New note or inbox append
You choose a vault and Aureon creates a new markdown note, or appends to a designated inbox note. It does not edit or reorganize the notes you keep elsewhere.
Direct capture, so keep an eye on the inbox
Capture is direct—the note goes to your vault as you speak it. Point Aureon at an inbox note or folder you are comfortable having new content added to, and give a new note a distinct title to avoid a title clash.
How it works
From a spoken idea to a note in your vault.
Press your shortcut and speak
Say the note the way it comes to you. Aureon captures the whole thought, including structure you mention out loud.
Choose your vault location
Point Aureon at a local folder or vault once. It prepares markdown formatted for Obsidian.
Aureon captures the note to your vault
Aureon writes the clean markdown to your vault—a new note, or appended to your inbox note. The notes you keep elsewhere are left alone.
In everyday use
Where voice capture beats typing.
The value is in the moments where stopping to type would lose the thought—walking, in a meeting, or mid-task.
Meeting takeaway
Voice: capture that we agreed to ship the connector pages first, revisit i18n after data.
## Decision Ship connector pages first. Revisit i18n after search data comes back.
The spoken decision becomes a clean, linkable note in the vault—created new, not merged into an existing file.
Choose by the job
Voice to Obsidian, raw dictation, and manual notes are not the same.
| Use case | Aureon | Raw dictation | Type it yourself |
|---|---|---|---|
| Output | Clean vault-ready markdown | Unstructured transcript | Clean but slow |
| Structure | Headings and lists preserved | One paragraph | Whatever you type |
| Other notes | Left as they are | N/A | You control it |
| Speed | Speak and capture | Fast but messy | Slowest |
Use your judgment
What it does and does not do.

Questions about voice to Obsidian.
Use these to decide whether Aureon fits your capture workflow.
01Can Aureon send voice notes to Obsidian on Mac?
Yes. You speak, Aureon prepares clean markdown, and it captures a new note to your Obsidian vault or appends to a chosen inbox note. Capture is direct, so point it at a location you are happy to add content to.
02Will it edit or overwrite the notes I keep in my vault?
Aureon captures create-only: a new note, or an append to your designated inbox note. It does not edit or reorganize the notes you keep elsewhere. Give a new note a distinct title so it does not clash with an existing filename.
03Do I need to set anything up?
You point Aureon at a local folder or vault, and choose an inbox note if you want appends. After that, you press your shortcut, speak, and the clean markdown is captured.
04Is this just dictation into Obsidian?
No. Dictation drops a raw transcript. Aureon shapes rough speech into structured markdown—headings and lists—so the note is usable the moment it lands.
